+ How does VALUENEX Radar differ from other data analytics tools?

VALUENEX Radar is a big data analysis tool and as searching is not it’s primary function, it returns different results from those of an ordinary search tool. Ordinary search tools produce results based on designated search conditions, such as Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) relating to keywords, document classification, and so forth without taking into account similarity to search parameters. VALUENEXRadar produces results by calculating the similarity of entire bodies of text, resulting in highly accurate statistical and visual output.

+ Where do you get your data and how often is it updated?

We get our in-built patent data from USPTO, JPO, EP, and WIPO. This includes both patent applications and granted patents available from 1978 to current. We perform a full update once a week.

+ How are datasets created?

With VALUENEX Radar Patents, you can create a dataset by using search query (Text or patent number) or Bibliographic Data (Assignee, Inventor, IPC, keywords in Title, etc.). You can enter up to 520K characters in the search query box for a concept search, or enter patent numbers for the basis of the analysis. VALUENEX Radar Patents gathers a dataset by considering the similarity of the entire patent text (abstract, claims and descriptions) of all registered patents based on the entered text or patent number. VALUENEX Radar Documents enables the user to upload their own datasets containing up to 200,000 documents geared towards their analytical objectives.

+ Can we upload our own data for analysis?

Yes. VALUENEX Radar Documents enables the user to upload their own datasets containing up to 200,000 documents geared towards their analytical objectives. The tools can read and analyse any .xlsx, .csv, .txt, and .tsv files starting with a simple drag-and-drop.

+ Is my work on your platform private and secure?

Yes. VALUENEX is certified with ISO/IEC 27000 Information Security Management. Our ISMS Certification Number is JQA-IM1445 VALUENEX JAPAN INC.

+ How does the algorithm work?

After creating or uploading a data set for analysis, it is run through the algorithm with the following steps:

  1. Morphological analysis of the text which separates sentences into words and phrases
  2. TF-IDF calculation to extract characteristic words and assign each one a weight
  3. Similarity calculation and vector assignment based on all words in the data set
  4. Visualization through proprietary algorithm based on multi-dimensional scaling

+ How is machine learning used in your algorithm?

Machine learning is used for natural language processing, cluster creation, visualization output, and revealing of trends within the data. Plus a bit more that we keep as a trade secret.

+ What does analyses up to 200,000 mean, and why 200,000?

Through panoramic analytics, a unique method that allows the user to 'see and understand' the entirety of large amounts of data rather than the 'search and reading' of individual pieces of data, VALUENEX Radar analyzes and visualizes up to 200,000 individual documents on a single screen. The tool has the capacity to analyze more than 200,000 documents, however, users have found that up to 200,000 (sometimes by sampling from the entire dataset over 200,000 documents) provides a manageable, comprehensive, and objective view of the landscape.

+ What is a cluster and what does it contain?

Each circle on the radar chart is called a cluster. They contain semantically similar documents. The size of each cluster is proportional to the number of documents in it. The distance between clusters indicates the similarities between them. There is not an average number of documents in each cluster, they are positioned and sized strictly on the categorical documents within them, and the degree of similarity to others in the dataset.

+ What is technology convergence?

Technology convergence is when industries typically in separate fields of business come together. For example, the alignment of technological developments around autonomous driving has brought companies together, such as tech giants and auto-makers. Our tools can detect these convergences several years in advance with our proprietary and precise technology mapping and trend graphing.

+ What is 'White Space'?

‘White Space’ is an area of undeveloped potential, which can include unique technologies, novel concepts and underdeveloped R&D.

+ Is the analysis enough to provide an industry perspective or trend?

In many cases, yes. With approproate data and default parameters of the calculation, the tool will provide output with an accurate and objective reading of the industry and trends within, which can be used in developing actionable strategy.

+ Can we analyze internal sensitive data against external sources?

Yes, you have the option to use our in-built patent databases or upload any text data. You can analyze a sensitive document or preliminary patent application against the existing public patent applications, granted patents, or any uploaded text data. We can also create a secure closed circuit network outside of our existing cloud-based service and API, which can analyze any kind of your text data.

+ Can we compare our position in the industry against a competitor?

Yes. You can choose multiple companies when creating a dataset, limit the dataset to only your company or that of your competitor/s, or find which companies populate your field based on concept-search queries with the in-built patent data. Additionally, you can do a broad grab of patents in your core space and look for emerging companies that you might not have realized were an upcoming threat.

+ Can I run multiple analyses at the same time?

Yes. The maximum amount depends on your plan.

+ How long does it take to get the results of an analysis?

Smaller analyses can take between 10-15 minutes. When analyzing 200,000 documents, it can take upwards of a few hours.

+ Do your tools operate on Mac?

VALUENEX Radar can operate on any machine with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. ClusterMapViewer is only available on a Windows PC.

+ How much do your services cost and how do I sign up?

We offer various packages based on individual needs. Starting with a demo to see where our solutions will fit into your workflow and the optimal configurations for your needs is a great way to begin. Navigate to one of the demo buttons and lets get started!

+ Do you provide training for your products?

Yes, we provide a range of personalized training services to ensure that our users gain maximum value from the platform.
