Bridging the gap between the promise of Big Data and current analytics capabilities

Businesses are constantly adding enormous amounts of data to their repository as represented by the 7 exabytes of new data stored by enterprises in 2010. While many trends will drive the rate at which businesses accumulate data, none is as important as the data generation that will be ...

In recent years, manufacturers have diversified the automobile powertrain, offering hybrid, fuel-cell, and electric vehicles to reduce the environmental impact of automobiles. Furthermore, manufacturers are advancing technologies related to how vehicles send data to and receive it from the outside world, with intelligent transportation systems (ITS), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications, and connected cars. Using advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous car technologies, automobile control is becoming increasingly independent of human intervention. This transformation of the automobile could even have an impact on how users experience their familiar car interiors and how drivers interface with vehicles (collectively referred to as “interiors” below). Car interiors consist of numerous decorative elements, but it is likely that many of these elements will undergo a technological evolution.

Discontinuous Innovation to Fuel Auto Industry's Greatest Revolution in a Century

A Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Report - powered by VALUENEX analytics

Over the last century or so, automotive industry players have been competing to leverage economies of scale as they undergo continuous innovation centered mainly on gasoline and diesel engines. However, new technologiy trends such as electric vehicles, carbon fiber and other advanced materials, and autonomous driving are fostering discontinuous (disruptive) innovation on parallel tracks, and this will likely cause tremendous structural changes. There is no guarantee that even the current market leaders will be able to maintain their strength. In this report we discuss some of the major trends occuring in the auto industry, based on our analysis of worldwide patent information.

Moving towards a Hydrogen Society: Production

Hydrogen is garnering more and more attention as clean energy source because of its water-only emissions when used as a fuel. In recent years, it has become even more prominent due to its use in residential fuel cells and fuel-cell vehicles.

Moving towards a Hydrogen Society: Storage

Much hydrogen storage-related research has been on hydrogen storage alloys, but various material systems - various hybrids, MOF, formate, etc. - have also been considered as research topics. Specificall, in recent years, researchers have been looking at hydrogen physiorption [...]

How Enterprise M&As affect your health

An AAAI Report ( www.aaai.org )

Our lives have been impacted by the media coverage given to self-driving car technology as flagship companies in this domain aren't traditional automobile companies. Google became the king of the Internet, and their self-driving system is looking like the most advanced system in the world. It is therefore clear that industry consolidation is occurring worldwide, and we need to consider what impacts this will have for us as huge M&As occur. Predictive Analytics can enable us to accurately understand this future.

Artificial Intelligence for Health and Wellbeing

An AAAI Report ( www.aaai.org )

With artificial intelligence (AI) entering its third major boom, R&D competitiveness has become fiercer and fiercer worldwide. With this reemerging interest, several potentially concerning factors have arisen, such as social issues including a rise in unemployment, ethical dilemmas related to the natural existence of humans, and many more. From this point on, it is important for R&D efforts to focus on producing AI technologies that can contribute to a human-centric design.

Industrie 4.0 and Essential Technologies

One goal of Industrie 4.0 is to create more sophisticated production systems, not only within individual companies but also with a focus on connections with outside entities. Another goal is for computers to aid in the advanced control of production processes. The significance here is in standardization and a reduced reliance on people. However, this does not mean that individuals will be eliminated from production sites. According to SAP, workers will be able to engage in more highly specialized jobs, with high levels of added value, and to gain knowledge and skills in a variety of fields.

The primary purpose of SNS is to facilitate communication between individuals, but SNS also contain widely variant and voluminous data, often referred to as “big data.” As a result, some researchers are investigating applications for purposes other than communication by extracting and analyzing the data they need from SNS. In fact, numerous companies are conducting market analyses and pursuing policies to reduce customer complaints using SNS data, and other companies are developing services for these purposes.

Research and Application in Context Awareness

Context awareness is likely to be an essential concept in future IT-related services, but as its meaning is somewhat vague, it is unclear what is meant by “context awareness” in the present environment. Therefore, we gathered academic citations related to context awareness, using the bibliographic database operated by the publisher Elsevier. We conducted an analysis of the complete picture of context awareness research and its potential future applications, using a cluster analysis.
